Artist's Statement
The ability to record on paper the inner workings of a plant or flower blossom is truly a blessing. All parts of a flower or plant have clearly defined functions and they work together as one of Nature’s teams to provide life, sustenance, and purpose.
Recording the life cycle of a plant requires patience, commitment and determination. A plant cannot be rushed through its cycles. The conditions under which a plant grows can be altered but the growth itself is not controlled. Patience is an integral part of a botanical artist’s toolbox. There is a direct correlation between the length of the plant’s life cycle and the completion time of a study.
It is determination that allows an artist to work within the confines of the plant’s life cycle. The resulting artwork is not only an accurate depiction of a plant and its many stages of life but also it is a testament to the commitment of the artist to capture this complex and beautiful process on paper.
